After surging to a two-goal lead in the first four minutes of the game, Real Salt Lake lost 3-2 to the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps on a 90th-minute goal in a Major League Soccer game Saturday night in Sandy.

Vancouver’s Pedro Vite scored the decisive goal with a left-footed shot from the top of the box.

Real Salt Lake (4-9-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game.

Midfielder Zavier Gozo, an 18-year-old who graduated from Salt Lake Academy this week, scored in the first minute — his first goal for RSL.

Diego Luna added a goal in the fourth minute — his eighth of the season — and RSL led 2-0.

But Vancouver’s Brian White scored two goals — in the 20th and 25th minutes — and the game was tied at halftime. White’s second goal came on a penalty kick.

The teams each had 15 shots, with six shots on goal.

Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka stopped four shots, while RSL‘s Rafael Cabral stopped three.

The Whitecaps (9-1-4) beat RSL for the second time this month and remain atop Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.

Real Salt Lake is scheduled to return to action Wednesday at Austin (6:30 p.m. MDT, Apple TV).
