While watching the Sunday talk shows, I am frequently appalled by some of the remarks made by President Trump in his interviews. Recently he stated, “I run the country and the world.” In my opinion, that seems to be a fantasy of his majesty’s greatness. When asked by Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press,” he said he didn’t know if he had to uphold the Constitution. He recited the oath of office two times at his inaugurations, but his glib mannerisms belied the authenticity of his intent to faithfully execute the laws and defend the Constitution.
The Supreme Court has directed his administration to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the CECOT prison in El Salvador, because he was deported without getting due process of the justice system. To date, no action has been to return him, and ICE continues to round up immigrants with no access to the legal process before deportation. During the interview with Welker, he said he would “follow the Supreme Court” when asked about enforcing the law.
Among his recent stunts was an AI-generated picture of him dressed in papal garments posing as the pope posted on X and the White House public feed. He has said it was all in good fun, but it is an irreverent joke and an insult to the Catholic Church. I know Trump never apologizes for anything, but this is stealing something which is dedicated to God.
I suppose this will be written off as a childish prank and normalized as the Trump induced zeitgeist of our country. His actions in office are a display of brutal deportations which sweep up some immigrants who do not deserve to be deported. His heartless attitude towards immigrants as vermin debunks his attempt to “have the appearance of godliness.”
He was peddling Bibles at the Washington, D.C., eclipse in his first term, pretending he knew the Gospel, while using it for selfish gain. The Bible says we should welcome the stranger, but Trump rejects the power of the Gospel, while using it for self-aggrandizement.
